Valentine Zoo

Mrs. Huskey read this delightful book to her kindergarten students who then created all these animals from various sizes of hearts. Great literature lesson with symmetry, creativity and writing all together!

Writer's Workshop

Last week our teachers completed an audit of their Writers Workshop class.  Teachers were asked to think of their Writers Workshop and assess themselves on the components of Writers Workshop done in their individual rooms.  After those were turned in, I made appointments with each teacher to observe their Writers Workshop in action.  A special walk through form was created to use during these observations.  The information gathered from the audit and the walk throughs will be tabulated and shared with the staff, looking for those components we all do well, those we hit and miss and those we need to improve on.

The photos below show a variety of strategies and small moments captured while I completed the walk throughs.  I am so proud of the work our students are doing in writing.

Students are involved in the prewriting activity of using fingers to add details to their writings.  A student shares her writing web with her teacher.  Students are practicing writing sight words "in a snap."

Students are sharing with partners.  Students read their pieces to a partner, then the partner offers compliments and helpful hints.

In first grade a piece of writing is shared to all via the Smartboard.  All students offer compliments and helpful hints.

Valentines Decorations at School

Our students have been eager to talk about the recent Valentine decorations that have been placed around the school. I have told the students that they can come to the office and read any stories they write about Valentines Day. Lets see if I get any takers!

Labeling Work

Teachers were asked to label the work in the hallways with learning targets in order for visitors to be able to understand the purpose of the work displayed. Lots of comments from visitors saying how much this helps them understand what the work represents. Great job

900 Band Assembly

Every class has earned 900 bands through our Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS) so we had our assembly today to celebrate!  We were fortunate to have The Strength Team here to help us celebrate!  William Green, formerly of the Cleveland Browns and Mike Hagen, of the Seattle Seahawks entertained our students with various acts of strength, but more importantly, shared messages of holding on to your dreams, dangers of drugs and alcohol, and the 6 Ps:  Prompt, Prepared, Polite, Positive, Participate and Produce.

Our students were so well behaved that they earned a compliment from Mr. Hagen, "This is the best behaved group of kindergarteners and first graders I have entertained!"  Well done, students!!
