Bank of Common Cents
Our students have the opportunity to open a savings account with Commerce Bank. We have been partners with Commerce Bank since 2006.
The school bank is open every Wednesday from 7:30-8:00. The tellers are bank employees and selected California fifth graders.
To open an account, come by Commerce Bank and bring a $1. For every deposit made at school the student is given a reward. In May the bank hosts a party with the students who have savings accounts.

Second Grade Hatchery
All the students in Mrs. Rowles, Mrs. Ash, Mrs. Billings, Mrs. Honeywell, Mrs. Dusenberg and Mrs. Higgins' class are becoming parents.... to a bunch of chicks!
The countdown begins!

The eggs are being kept warm and comfy by these light bulbs, which switch itself on and off as needed to keep a steady warm temperature in the incubator.
The parent's name is written on the eggshell.
We will announce the arrival of all the birds!

Buddy Packs
Last year at the urging of two HS students, the elementary school started handing out Buddy Packs, which are backpacks filled with enough food to last one person over the weekend. Students come to the office one day a week and pick up their buddy packs. We are grateful for the HS students who help with the stuffing of the buddy packs.
This year we are receiving help from the National Honor Society students. We are very grateful for their assistance.

Going Green!
Quest Kids in the third, fourth and fifth grade are on a mission to help our school GO GREEN! Last year they studied the effects of a global economy and this year, they continue their global studies by looking at energy consumption of the world.
Signs are being put by every light switch in the building. These signs remind us to turn off lights when we are not using them.

Carnival Project
The office is selling stuffed animals at the Carnival. These need to be preordered. The form is coming home soon.
You will complete the form and send it to school with payment. At the Carnival you will get to stuff the animal (similar to Build A Bear) and get a birth certificate for your animal.
There are several choices: a Pinto, a lamb, a bulldog, a rhino, a basset hound, a dragon, a seal and a chimp. These would make fabulous Christmas gifts. The animal by itself is $15 and you can add a California t shirt for another $10.
These are due to the office by Friday, October 1.

The front entrance of our school received a fall makeover this weekend. Thank you to Jennifer Hope for putting together the gourds, pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks, mums and scarecrows. Our students were delighted! We are looking good!
Thank you so much!

We use large motor muscles to learn to write before we use our fine motor muscles. Here is Mrs. Abernathy's class learning several lower case letters from Mrs. Brauner.

Movie Night!
We had a fabulous first Movie Night! We had nearly 200 people watching Marmaduke! Concessions were fabulous, with the brats making a huge hit for PTO!
Scenes from the evening:
It was so much fun! Be sure to join us for the next one in October. Look for the flyer in your child's backpack.

Lunch on the Patio
There is a sweet little courtyard between the cafeteria and the first grade hallway. A former student, Aaron Burger, remodeled the courtyard my first year here by adding concrete picnic tables and palm trees for his Eagle project.
Mrs. Dusenberg's second grade took advantage of the cooler weather yesterday to enjoy the patio. As you can see, they loved it!

Did you ever wonder...
What do those funny little codes mean? Look here:
The GLE stands for Grade Level Expectancy. In other words, it is an objective for reading, science, math, etc. The other numbers and letters tell what content it is and what strand (branch) of the content we are studying. These samples of student work are located in the various hallways at school. When you are in, come by and tour the halls!

Picture Day!
I love Picture Day! The kids come to school dressed up in their nice clothes, with their hair all curled or spiked with gel. It is also a fact that when kids look nice, they behave better!
Parent volunteers help us during Picture Day. Today we were thankful for Jennifer Hope, Robin Staton and Laura Burger. We appreciate your gift of time!

Lunch Ladies!
The breakfast and lunch program at our school provide delicious and nutritious meals for our students and staff. Kids have a choice of white, chocolate or strawberry milk every day and if the student has a food allergy confirmed by a doctor, we can provide grape or orange juice and soy milk.
The lunch menu is posted by the office at kid level. We find that a lot of kids learn to read the menu quickly!
