I came into Mrs. Winklemann's class from the hallway because I heard the words, small moments, come from the room. I love observing writers workshop and the Lucy Caulkins model of writing is very powerful instruction. After discussing and reading about small moments, the students sat down to write. I am writing with them while they write and it is such a great feeling to be a part of a room of authors. You can hear the rumple of paper being moved, pencils sweeping across the paper, tiny voices stretching out a word to spell and the soft, grown up sound of teacher's shoes walking around the pods of desks. I hope we all get to share our work!

Election Day
Voting is a citizen's duty and here at East the students are excited to exercise that duty today. Teachers have created age appropriate lessons and opportunities for our kindergarteners and first graders to vote today. Many students were talking about going with their parents to vote. If you haven't yet, get out there and vote!
