Christmas and Holiday Activities at East

We are busy with the holiday season at East.  Students kicked off the holiday season this year by having our first grade Christmas concert on December 3.  The students did a wonderful job as usual, thank you to Mrs. Cluck!

Veterans Day Parade

This year our kindergarten and first grade students celebrated Veterans Day with a parade by the veterans from our local VFW.  First grade students sang Old Glory for the veterans who came in from the parade.  There is nothing more powerful than children's voices lifted in song.  When the children were ready to leave the rotunda, the veterans lined up and "high fived" or shook the hands of every first grader.  This was such a powerful and personal event for the students.

Pumpkin Carving Night

Wright City East Elementary School celebrated its Fifth Annual Pumpkin Carving Night and Pumpkin Glow with over 60 parents and students assembled into the cafeteria.  The pungent odor of pumpkin was thick in the air, as pumpkins were gutted and charming and some scary, faces were carved from the shells.

It is a wonderful feeling seeing parents fully involved with their students creating a pumpkin that will sit on their porches.  Made at their school.  Made with love and laughter and memories.  For parent involvement to be most effective, it has to get into the home.  Positive interactions with administration and teachers while families made their masterpieces were heard at each table.  Truly a wonderful thing.
