Writer's Workshop

Last week our teachers completed an audit of their Writers Workshop class.  Teachers were asked to think of their Writers Workshop and assess themselves on the components of Writers Workshop done in their individual rooms.  After those were turned in, I made appointments with each teacher to observe their Writers Workshop in action.  A special walk through form was created to use during these observations.  The information gathered from the audit and the walk throughs will be tabulated and shared with the staff, looking for those components we all do well, those we hit and miss and those we need to improve on.

The photos below show a variety of strategies and small moments captured while I completed the walk throughs.  I am so proud of the work our students are doing in writing.

Students are involved in the prewriting activity of using fingers to add details to their writings.  A student shares her writing web with her teacher.  Students are practicing writing sight words "in a snap."

Students are sharing with partners.  Students read their pieces to a partner, then the partner offers compliments and helpful hints.

In first grade a piece of writing is shared to all via the Smartboard.  All students offer compliments and helpful hints.
